Kicked Out, Ran Away, or Were Abandoned. The 2019 NM Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey shows that 8.4% of New Mexico youth grades 9-12 slept away from their home because they were kicked out, ran away or were abandoned. These rates are much higher for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer, or genderfluid youth. One caring adult in a young person’s life reduces the likelihood of housing instability.
